New Playoff Overtime Rule:

Here’s the new, controversial playoff overtime rule that will go into effect this postseason. Basically, the rule says that if the team that wins the coin toss in overtime scores the field goal, the other team should have a possession on offense as well. If the second team scores a field goal as well, the game then becomes a simple sudden death like usual NFL overtime rules. Here’s my take on the rule.

I definitely think this is a step in the right direction. Cause honestly, the current overtime situation is great for a sup-par team that wins the toss and pulls off the “fluke” victory. One defensive pass interference call by the referees is all that it takes for a team to get into field goal range. And, these days, 50 is the new 40. If a kicker misses inside 40 yards, they pretty much get cut. 50 yard field goals are now seen as completely make-able, a difference from around ten years ago. I think this rule will allow the better team to win. A first possession touchdown still pulls out a win, so a dominant team can still win on the coin toss. I still prefer the college overtime, and I think it creates more excitement, but I definitely think this is a step in the right direction.

This has been one of my favorite songs for a long time. Other than being really catchy, I think it provides a pretty strong message. Although the grim subject of suicide is dealt with in the song, I think it provides a more general message: that it’s never too late. You have the whole world in front of you. Your aspirations, your dreams. Everything you have ever wanted to do in your life. Go out and get them. And remember, it’s never too late.
